The course requires a 15 page paper on the history of whatever genre in which I am writing, plus a lengthy sample or samples of my work. The point of the course is to get some pieces ready to be sent out in hopes of publication. Since my focus is in Creative Writing, my professor suggested writing three short stories that add up to 40-60 typed pages, double spaced. She suggested I work on this part of the course over the summer, that way I have a rough draft of my work going into the course.
After some thought, the following are the three stories that I am planning to write for the class:
1. "To Pay the Price": This story will tell the story of a very tragic time in Saro's, my character's, life. This event is what marks a drastic turning point in his life. It will start with an argument that occurs between himself and the leaders of the rebellion (those against the reigning monarchy of the Larreian race), and it ends after the murders of his mother and wife.
2. "Family Relations": This story will aim to depict the relationship between my character Suki and her uncle, Kotei. Normally, they are sworn enemies, which began when Kotei tried to take control of Suki after her father's and sister's tragic deaths. They meet at her parents' gravesite - the only place that is considered neutral ground. The relationship between Suki and Kotei is described in detail, as well as their relationships with the rest of the family.
3. "A Dying Past": This story starts with my character, Yuriko, at the funeral of her best friend. She is thirteen. Then, it fast forwards to four years later when she is having a conversation with Ake during the time when they are growing to trust each other as friends. The conversation will reveal previously hidden sides of both her's and Ake's personalities.
Yeah... so that is what has been on mind.
I will try to update sometime within the next month!
